the burnt left tail light bothers me. Also, thanks for the "inspiration," I now have a small desire to put a small 'murica flag decal on my Caliber...

I read this article and although I think it's a step in a better direction compared to the typical way women are viewed in the automotive world (think booth girls and F1 babes on the podium), but I think the article might be a little bit misguided or at best, incredibly simplified. These articles to me (and there have a been a lot lately about equal opportunity for women etc) just seem like men want to convince women to align their interests with the interests of men while under the guise of equal opportunity. Don't get me wrong. I want all people to have the same warm welcome from groups of same interests. But I wonder how men would feel if women kept writing articles about how they wish men would be more interested in buying shoes. Sure, there are men who like shoes. And sure, the notion of women buying shoes is a stereotype; but so is men liking cars.
These articles that try to address issues like "women's interest in cars" fail to give true reverence to the larger societal influences. It's not about, "hey, lets make room for women in our hobby and they will come". The real scenario is more like, "hey, this group of women love shoes! And this group of men like cars! I wonder why that's the case. And more importantly, is that so bad?" Really... is it so bad? Personally, I think women should be able to do whatever they want without fear of rejection or harassment; same goes for men. I believe people shouldn't be paid differently according to their gender, race, orientation etc. However, I don't believe that certain activities, hobbies, or interests being dominated by one gender should be considered incomplete.
I welcome all women to motorsport. Motorsport is cool. But I'm not gonna think something is wrong with motorsport if they don't flock to it. That being said, I think all booth babes, motorsport babes, podium babes, cheerleaders etc should be banned. I always hated it. Not because it cheapens them as women (and it does), but rather it irritates me to no end that a girl gets to stand next to a podium champ in their moment of celebration while they know nothing about why the person even won.
I think we should Banish the articles of Banishing The Female Car Enthusiasts.
Lets take an example. Sabine Schmitz. Queen of the Nurburgring. She is a woman that drives pretty damn well. And she has a cool Porsche. Jalopnik loves her. Even Top Gear loves her. And when I read about her and her antics, I think it's special. Would it be as special if it was "Middle aged guy has Porsche GT3 and he drives it pretty fast around the Ring". Nope. Why? Because there are tons of middle aged Porsche owners that drive around the Ring really well, but Jalopnik, me, and you don't give a rat's booty. I don't think the fact that we all like Sabine is demeaning or degrading in any way to her, women, or motorsport. She is a woman. It's just cool because women are cool.

I agree with you. It's a complicated issue in the world of cars.

Agree. The article did seem a bit over-simplified in the matter but i think it was a great read to spotlight women in the motoring world being normal motorheads. And that's how it should be.
This article didn't perpetuate the typical "hey guys let's make room for ladies in motorsport" but more of a "hey we're already here being gearheads, let's keep encouraging that growth". Even better that this was written by Tahryn. She raised some questions and theorized why involvement is so slim and how it may be growing.

Now add bigger turbo and race suspension parts. Crazy torque steer.
